In response to FLOOD in Omaha, Nebraska, Mike Nesbit introduces, THE BLUES. Taking a literal approach to representing the majestic cloud banks of the Midwest, Nesbit’s work will continues to push his artistic techniques with concrete by introducing color as a means to produce abstract work that contextually captures the sublime scale of the region’s skies.
In keeping with the trajectory of the studio, THE BLUES is a project that grounds itself as a cultural igniter. By creating art at an architectural scale, THE BLUES pushes the boundary of manufacturing techniques and works interdependently with local businesses and cultural institutions to reach community at all scales. THE BLUES will require all of us to re-think the prototypical norm of what an art exhibition is. By surveying the city for pre-existing infrastructure THE BLUES looks to breathe life into something that once thrived but has since been forgotten. By working with local museums, art institutions, and the media, THE BLUES will become a true cultural activator.
